Malaysia Smart School

What is a Smart School?

The Smart School is an educational institution with emphasis on thinking-enabled learning, student-centered, using technology and multimedia wisely, applying teaching-learning strategies appropriately and effective school management in order to create a meaningful as well as effective schooling and learning environment.

To jump-start the establishment of smart schools, the Ministry of Education appointed the Telekom Smart School consortium to design, develop and prepare a smart school solution package. The smart school solution package includes ICT-enabled learning courseware for Bahasa Malaysia, English, Science and Mathematics. The first series of courseware was used in 90 primary and secondary smart schools in 2000. Presently, the whole courseware package has been distributed to all Smart Schools in Malaysia.

Cikgu James hopes that our school, SK Cator Avenue will become one of the smart school in Ipoh Perak one day. So teachers and students, we must together work harder to achieve this goal. Bye and see you in school.

2010 School Open Day

2010 First Day of School + My Birthday

Today Is the first day of school and also my BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday to Cikgu James in SK Cator Avenue Ipoh!

This morning I almost late for school because of the traffic jam. The cause for this traffic jam is today is the first day of school in 2010. Actually teacher woke up early in the morning at 6:30 but still late for school. Anyway I still get my time to reach the school and join the first day of assembly in the hall.

This year I will be teaching Year 5 major subjects only, that is 5U, 5N and 5Z in Mathematics, 5N in Science and 6N in PJ. I am happy with my timetable, my total period for this year is 29. Even though I’m not the class teacher, but I’m still the supervisor for all the teachers in Year 5. My job is to guide and assist the teachers in year 5 to take care their students and also their classroom daily rutin. Hopefully this year my boys can learn and play happily in the school and live healthy all the time. Take care and see you all in the school :) .

Extra Information: Today is also the Birthday of Isaac Newton

Who is Isaac Newton and what has he done to the world of science ?!

Sir Isaac Newton (4 January 1643 – 31 March 1727 [OS: 25 December 1642 – 20 March 1727]) was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian who is perceived and considered by a substantial number of scholars and the general public as one of the most influential scientists in history. His 1687 publication of the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (usually called the Principia) is considered to be among the most influential books in the history of science, laying the groundwork for most of classical mechanics. In this work, Newton described universal gravitation and the three laws of motion which dominated the scientific view of the physical universe for the next three centuries. Newton showed that the motions of objects on Earth and of celestial bodies are governed by the same set of natural laws by demonstrating the consistency between Kepler’s laws of planetary motion and his theory of gravitation, thus removing the last doubts about heliocentrism and advancing the scientific revolution.

Questioning And Class Discussions

Oral Questioning And Discussion Skills

Just as the quality of scientific inquiry depends upon asking worthwhile questions, the quality of inquiry scinece teaching is guided by effective questioning. The effective teacher displays an open and questioning mind, making it clear that learning never ends just as the world of science is changing and growing at a rapid pace.

Many times, the process of finding the answer to a question is more important than the answer itself. By asking different levels of questions interactively and employing suitable reinforcement towards pupil’s responses, the teacher can guide the thinking precess of the pupils. In the precess, the teacher can also involve more and more pupils so that questioning forms an important part of class discussions.

School’s Art Project

Cikgu James’ Art Project In School

Today during the art subject, I bring the boys to the hall in Tahap two to do the art project.  I give them each one a piece of white paper, and then I ask them to fold the paper to become a small plane. After that, the boys must test fly the paper plane to see whose plane can fly the highest. The winner will get a present. I will also give point base on their plane decorating or coloring. So hopefully they can try their best to do this art project. Thanks again to all my boys for having fun doing this project.
